New Lightstreamer Server Released, with Support for Silverlight, Flex AMF, and Bidirectional Web Streaming

The new version of Lightstreamer, the "real-time web" enabler, introduces many new features and improvements, including the ability to push live data to Microsoft Silverlight and Adobe Flex applications (with full binary AMF object support).

MILAN, ITALY -- (Marketwire - Feb. 17, 2010) – Lightstreamer Server v.3.6 has been released, together with important updates to all its client APIs. Lightstreamer is the leading "Push Engine" used by international tier-one financial institutions to deliver real-time market data through the Web.

Lightstreamer was the first Push Server to support HTML and AJAX applications, updating the contents of any web page in real time, with no page reloads or browser plug-ins. Among many other client-side technologies, Lightstreamer introduced early support for Adobe Flex too. Full compatibility with binary Flex AMF (ActionScript Message Format) objects is now available with Lightstreamer 3.6, boosting the performance of any real-time Flex application. Furthermore, the new version of Lightstreamer has made available official support for Microsoft Silverlight applications. This means that any type of application, ranging from HTML, to Flash/Flex, Silverlight, iPhone, and many others can now take full benefit of the Real-Time Web.

The Lightstreamer Web Client now enables applications to push backward messages from the client to the server with delivery notification and automatic HTTP batching.

"We have been continuously improving Lightstreamer for the past ten years", said Alessandro Alinone, Chief Technology Officer of Lightstreamer. "This is a milestone release, where we combined the implementation of several new features requested by our customers with further improvements to both performance and reliability".

A leading example of a Lightstreamer/Flex implementation is where Lightstreamer was chosen by Morgan Stanley for their innovative Matrix platform as presented at Adobe MAX 2009 in Los Angeles. Matrix has changed the way investment banks deliver a trading plaform and set new standards for look-and-feel.

Apart from the finance industry, Lightstreamer is used in all the verticals where real-time data is strategic, including military, transportation, gaming, and social networks.
