Lightstreamer 5.0 Colosseo Released with WebSocket Support for Real-Time Market Data Streaming

Weswit, the global leader in real-time web solutions, released Lightstreamer 5.0 “Colosseo” with WebSocket support and new JavaScript APIs.

MILAN, ITALY -- (Bobsguide – August 6, 2012) – Lightstreamer is a world-class solution for pushing real-time data over the Web to and from any desktop/mobile browsers and apps. With a growing number of customers ranging from small size startups to Fortune 500 companies like Bank of America, J.P. Morgan, and Morgan Stanley, Lightstreamer is used by many financial institutions around the globe to stream market data, news, and orders as part of their dealing platforms (for FX, CFD trading, spread betting, etc.).

Lightstreamer 5.0 Colosseo includes full support for WebSockets, together with a brand new JavaScript client API, impressive performance boost, and many new features. The WebSocket protocol is a new Web standard that enables bidirectional, full-duplex communication over the Web. Even if WebSockets are not yet universally supported by the browsers and the network infrastructure, the Stream-Sense algorithm of Lightstreamer is able to automatically choose the best transport among the many available for each client, connected through any existing proxies and firewalls.

“We are very excited to unveil Lightstreamer Colosseo”commented Alessandro Alinone, co-CEO and CTO at Weswit. “This release is an important milestone for our technology and will be a game-changer. By implementing rock-solid support for WebSockets, besides HTTP streaming and smart polling, we achieved to set the bar higher, increasing the overall performance without adding complexity, thus ensuring peace of mind to developers”.

On the client side, a completely redesigned JavaScript API is available. The new library is easier to use, much faster, and represents the first implementation of the Lightstreamer Unified Client API. The other client libraries will follow the same interface in the future, so that switching languages and platforms (e.g. from JavaScript to Objective-C, or from Java to .NET) will be extremely easy. The new JavaScript API, version 6, is based on AMD (Asynchronous Module Definition).

The new JavaScript library is compatible with "out-of-browser" applications too, resulting in the possibility of leveraging Lightstreamer inside any JavaScript-based platforms, including Node.js and PhoneGap.

The new Stream-Sense algorithm is now ultra-fast. The connection to Lightstreamer Server is established in a fraction of the time it took with previous versions.

With Lightstreamer Server 5.0 the performance has been boosted even more, in terms of increased scalability and reduced latency. Lightstreamer can be easily deployed in a cloud and take benefit from both horizontal and vertical scalability.

Many other features are available as part of the new JS client library, including a new logging and error management facility, new ready-made widgets (a new status indicator and new data grids), and new support for TLS/SSL renegotiation.

The final release of Lightstreamer 5.0 Colosseo is already available for free download on Lightstreamer website.
